SPRING!

Well now that the rains have come and flooded the ground, we can turn our thoughts to Spring. We are beginning to set up for the season to come. Boy, Winter seemed long this year.
The starts are beginning to arrive and soon the greenhouse will smell of moist soil. What a lift! If you have never experienced the smell of warm soil after a long Winter, stop by the garden center. It will lift you up.
The home shows are starting. We will be displayed at Lima the weekend of March 11-13 at the Allen County Fairgrounds Optimist Home Show.
The next two weekend will be our famous New Leaf Seminars. Ada will be March 19 and Kenton will be the next Saturday, March 26. Pam and I will be cooking again. Call to sign up. You don't want to miss this. That finishes the month of March and we will set up for the Findlay Home Show April 1-3 at the Cube.
This is a great time to look at your garden to see where you might have room for that perfect plant. Start Dreaming.
See you soon,
Dave

"I do believe in Fairies"

The newest idea that we have embraced at New Leaf is the Fairy Garden. The thought is to use a small dish type container or a small space in your garden to create a "home" for the fairies that come to your garden. These miniature landscapes can include the whimsical side of your personality. You can make the garden as creative as you wish. We are carrying a selection of garden accessories sized just right for your fairy. Stop by the garden center to get ideas and make your own Fairy Garden.

Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day weekend. Please join all of us at New Leaf as we honor our veterans on this holiday. Our freedom was not free, but paid for with the lives of many Americans.
We will be open 9-5 Saturday, 12-4 Sunday and 9-3 on Monday, Memorial day. Thank you for your patronage. We continue to have new plants arriving weekly and have cared for them through the heat. The place looks very nice, even if I do say so myself.
One new item that we just added, Premium Topsoil. This has been screened to be free of rocks and foreign debris, it really looks easy to work with.
Hope to see you soon.

Pond items

We have our fish ready to go home with you. We have isolated them after their travel and they are available. We have Koi, Butterfly Koi, Comets, Sarasa Comet, Shubunkins, and have added Black Moors and Red Cap Orandas.
Our tropical floaters are in. We have a good selection of blooming marginal plants, and the submerged plants are here. They use the nutrients directly from the water and help starve out the green water algae.
It is time to add the bacteria to your pond now. We are recommending Pond Perfect brand. Look at our pond out front. We are using it there.
Our Pond Day will be held Saturday, June 12. Watch for special ads for that weekend.

Made for the Shade

We have added a new shade house on the north side of the garden center. All of our shade loving perennials and shrubs are now displayed there. You can shop this area with confidence that those plants will grow in that shady area of your landscape. These plants are truly "Made For The Shade."

False Indigo

The perennial plant of the year is False Indigo, also known by it's scientific name Baptisia. The plant is a long lived perennial that loves to be in the sun. It almost becomes a shrub sized plant. The blooms are an upright spike of pea-shaped flowers that are showy for the month of May. We have several different ones, the species bloom blue or purple, but we also have a yellow and white form. Check them out!

Pond Order

I am putting together a pond plant order. If you want something special, send me an email at newleaf2@windstream.net.
